What to do with the Google Tag for Adwords?

Hi there,

I followed your step-by-step video “How to set up server-side Google Ads Conversion Tracking” to move our years old Google Ads tracking to serverside. With the video I could move all but 1 Google Ads related tag to server-GTM. And now I’m left wondering what to do with the last one :sweat_smile:

To be precise, I did the following:

  • Google Ads conversion tag → moved from web-GTM to server-GTM;
  • Google Ads remarketing tag → moved from web-GTM to server-GTM;
  • Conversion Linker → moved from web-GTM to server-GTM;
  • Google Tag with the Ads ID (starting with AW) → still in in web-GTM.

So they only thing left in web-GTM is the Google Tag with the Adwords ID in it (starting with AW). The 3 tags that I moved to serverside all have this very same ID too, just without the AW in front of it.

The Google Tag isn’t mentioned anywhere in the video. So what to do with that?

Hi @Sabrina_AR, you can remove the Google Tag with the Ads ID from the web-GTM. This tag is web-only and has no counterpart in the server-GTM.
