Hi everyone, My name is Soumitra Dutta, an Oxford-based entrepreneur & photographer. Do you recommend using a single server container for all stores/domains, or setting up multiple containers.
I’m trying to understand what works best in terms of scalability, tracking accuracy, and maintenance. Would really appreciate hearing how you’ve approached this and any pros/cons you’ve seen in practice.
Multi-domain is usually used if your sites have very similar or identical tracking plans, events and data layers, and this is unlikely to change in the near future.
It is most often used if the domains differ only in language version and the site remains the same.
This makes it easier for you to perform updates and add tracking platforms, as everything is managed within a single container and you do not need to do this across multiple server containers.
But it heavily depends on your requirements, tracking plans, current tracking status, etc.
Keep in mind that multi-domain server side tracking is more complex than standard configuration, especially if the data layer structure of the websites differs and you are configuring different events on different websites..
