Hello community, I’m running into an issue when attempting to set up Stape + Consentmo.
We are using Consentmo app for Shopify, together along Stape’s app, as it was recommended in one of the implementation guides from Stape.
We’ve used this guide from Consentmo:
and Stape’s multiple guides on the topic, such as this one:
The issue has been taken to Consentmo already as well.
On one end we have that the web GTM is not firing after the consent status update, only fires on page reload after the consent has been given (or rejected).
On the other hand, the GA4 and Google ads tags are fired, wether consent or not is granted, and the consent status is set to “Granted” automatically on page load.
Is Consentmo still a recommended solution for using with Stape? Are there any better more straightforward options? We’ve been stuck with this for over 48hs and honestly not 100% sure how to sort it out.
We understand that the Consentmo banner offers a number of advantages for customers. However, its use is not always the most effective solution for analytics and marketing platforms. If you are looking for an easy-to-use cookie banner with optimal integration for analytics, we recommend switching to Cookiebot.
Proper configuration of Consentmo involves not only installing the Shopify app but also adding additional scripts for various settings. For example, if your traffic comes from different countries with different GDPR requirements, Consentmo requires additional configuration. You also need to manually pass the consent banner status to Shopify checkout (sandbox). There are many other similar cases that require extra setup.
In contrast, Cookiebot is much easier to configure, offers excellent customization options, and, most importantly, provides near-perfect integration with analytics tools.
You can implement Cookiebot via GTM, which is relatively simple. It is also easy to configure different consent rules for different countries. Additionally, when implementing Cookiebot through GTM, there is no need to separately pass the consent banner status to Shopify checkout (sandbox).
Since Google has an internal mechanism that allows analytics tools to interpret consent status correctly, proper configuration of the consent banner is extremely important for analytics (including Google Ads).
Based on our experience, we recommend switching to Cookiebot and implementing it through GTM as the simplest and most effective solution for your case.
You are right about all that, we figured it out in the past couple of hours but it required a lot of elbow grease, trial and error and settings to make it work properly and with multiple regions on the same Shopify store.
