After migrating our GA4/Google Ads setup to server-side tagging using sGTM Server Container (hosted on Stape) , the metric “Engaged sessions per user” dropped dramatically.
Before the migration the value was around 0.9–1.0.
Immediately after the migration it dropped to around 0.05.
We have custom loader with custom domain and cookie keeper active.
In GTM preview everything seems ok.
Overall, GA4 is tracking more users and more events now.
What could be the problem?
Hi @realconvis, this means that either the Active users number went up, or the Total engaged sessions went down.
Could you check which one is it?
Most of times this is because of Total engaged sessions went down due to some events not being sent to sGTM (because some tag - GA4 event tag or Google tag - is missing the server_container_url parameter) and also because the Cookies and Client Identification setting in the sGTM GA4 Client is set to Server Managed.
Double check if some tag may be missing the server_container_url parameter.
It looks like this metric might still be recalculated. Yesterday’s value suddenly changed to 0.75. Is that normal? Overall, we are seeing an increase in users and events like page_view and others.
I have only one Google Tag for GA4 and the server_container_url parameter is right. The GA4 Client is server managed.
Hi @realconvis,
If you’re looking at data that includes the past 2 days, then it’s expected a change in the numbers.
