I just tried turning on the GA4 ad block bypass toggle in custom loader. When I test it in GTM debug, it seems that the server GTM receives requests much more slowly and if I navigate links in the website a bit faster, the server GTM misses these page view requests. Is this a cause for concern for turning on the GA4 ad block bypass? If users navigate the website a bit more quickly, this function can miss some requests in the server GTM and miss some tracking. Also how much more ad block can this toggle potentially save?
If you navigate the pages quick enough for XHR request to not have time to fire, events will be cancelled anyway. I don’t think what you’re describing is anyhow related to the ga4 bypass feature
That does not seem to be the case. I can see in web GTM that the GA4 tag has already fired. But in server GTM debug, I have to wait for more than something like 30 seconds for the request to be received. If I navigate away from the page say 20 seconds after page is loaded, I won’t see the page view request in server GTM. When I turn off ga4 bypass, I get requests in sGTM debug almost instantly.
I don’t know if it has anything to do with the server GTM debug display itself. But in practice, if the request won’t be received in the server when users navigate away from the page after 20 seconds, tracking for many user would be lost.
I haven’t seen this behaviour on any of the containers. Can you please record a video of what you are describing? Ideally also to show that there is no problem if custom loader is not used?
Also if you can give a link to the site in question - I can network check how GA4 queries actually work. Probably you have a local glitch with the display of events in the preview. If in network the requests go out without delay as expected - then it is definitely a glitch.
Isn’t the GA4 bypass automatic when you use GTM Server Side WP plugin? I don’t see any difference in settings whether the toggle is on of off.
You need to change the toogle in stape.io custom loader power up.
Is that toggle new? I didn’t see any kind of announcement.
For WordPress sites using the plugin, do we just enable the GA4 ad block bypass and click generate on the website dashboard?
@Ross_Hopkins precisely so, no code changes needed to enable it
