Custom domain proxying in sGTM - impact on SEO metrics

When configuring a server-side Google Tag Manager container using a custom subdomain or reverse proxy paths, what are the recommended practices to avoid unintended interference with search engine crawlers and external SEO auditing tools? Services that evaluate domain metrics, such as page authority and domain authority, depend heavily on clean HTTP headers, correct status codes, and accurate canonical signals.

If tracking endpoints or loader scripts are routed through the primary domain architecture, is there any likelihood that automated backlink analyzers or SEO audit bots could encounter unexpected redirects or misinterpret server responses? Any guidance on how tagging server routing and bot filtering should be structured to maintain accurate data collection while safeguarding the crawlability of a website would be appreciated.

Hi,
There should be no issues with the setup or your SEO-related tasks. By default, Stape blocks search engine crawlers from accessing the sGTM container through its robots.txt, so SEO crawlers will not interact with the sGTM tracking endpoints.

Your regular website pages remain crawlable as normal, so the sGTM setup should not interfere with your website’s SEO or SEO auditing tools.
