Cookiebot + Stape Shopify app: stape_consent_update never fires

Hi,

I have a Shopify store with the Stape Conversion Tracking app, web GTM and sGTM on Stape, all set up through the Setup Assistant. Everything worked perfectly until I added Cookiebot as CMP. Since then begin_checkout and purchase no longer fire.

The mechanism, as far as I can tell

The Setup Assistant created trigger groups like stape_consent_update + begin_checkout_stape. On the storefront stape_consent_update fires fine, but inside the checkout it is never pushed, so the trigger group never completes and the tag never fires.

What I have already tried

  1. Cookiebot via the GTM CMP template, trigger Consent Initialization – All Pages, everything else left at the Setup Assistant defaults (Conversion Linker and GA4 config on Initialization – All Pages). cookie_consent_update fires, but stape_consent_update still does not appear in the checkout.

  2. Disabled Cookiebot in GTM and used the native Cookiebot Shopify app instead. No change.

  3. Removed Cookiebot from the theme entirely and use the Cookiebot CMP Tag only.

  4. Installed Stape’s Shopify Customer Privacy API tag for GTM web, all settings on default, firing on a custom event trigger for cookie_consent_update.

Where I am now

  • The Customer Privacy API tag shows as succeeded in preview mode.
  • begin_checkout_stape does fire inside the checkout, so the pixel itself is loading.
  • stape_consent_update is still never pushed in the checkout.

I don not understand what I am doing wrong within this setup. I hope really you can help.
