Client_id on data tag/client

Hey team,

If I only want to use the data tag/client for a single event, how can I get the client_id property to match that of all the other GA4 tags on the site. Currently the GA4 tags are using the value of the _ga cookie, but the data tag/client is using the _dcid value.

I would like the data tag to use the _ga value.

Hi,
I would not recommend using the Data tag - Data client to transfer data to GA4, as the measurment protocol is not fully open and there is no complete documentation on how to properly transfer data to GA4.
It is therefore better to use the GA4 native tags on the web for GA4 events.

So the event_data object that the data client creates isn’t a good option to fire a GA4 tag on?

Yes, it is recommended to use the native tag to set up GA4. For all other marketing platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Klaviyo, Snapchat etc. you can use Data tag - Data Client.
